The 70s

IE Business School opened its doors in the heart of Madrid's financial district in 1973. Those early years saw the launch of its MBA and Executive MBA programs, and the creation of the School's Advisory board and its Alumni Association. As Spain opened up to the world IE served as a platform for debate on business challenges on an international level.

The 80s

In 1983 the school's International MBA was born. The same decade saw the creation of IE's entrepreneurship department, geared to strengthen the school's entrepreneurial spirit, and new initiatives which included IE's Juan Lladó Award for cultural patronage. The campus now covered more than 7,000m2 and over 1,000 students attended IE master programs.

The 90s

The IE Business School Foundation was created, coupled with the New-York based IE Fund, with the aim of fostering research and scholarships for brilliant students. IE also launched its Business Leadership Forum where key players meet to examine challenges in the fields of economy, politics and management. IE founded the Sumaq Alliance in collaboration with leading Latin American business schools.

The 00's

IE has presented Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders of Google, Craig R. Barret, CEO of Intel, and Emilio Azcárraga, President of Televisa, with  Honoris Causa MBAs. Welcome to IE Business School, an innovative and entrepreneurial management learning hub.

IE Business School’s programs have internalized the main phenomena influencing business education today: the globalization of management; the impact of new technologies on the learning process; the recognition of diversity and new expressions of intelligence among students; along with the development of diverse sources and channels to deliver knowledge.

The recent crisis provides  IE Business School with the opportunity to revive our core mission of providing the best possible managers and entrepreneurs with a solid professional grounding and a clear commitment to the global society.

At IE we believe that business education is not just about creating good administrators, competent financial engineers, or accomplished management technicians, but also global citizens. We believe that the education delivered at our business school should involve a personal transformation process. That is why, for example, we integrate the study of the humanities into our business programs.  Putting the humanities at the core of  all study programs cements the learning experience and develops open-minded and well-rounded graduates.

IE offers a wide range of management programs, from undergraduate degrees to executive education development courses, all suited to the specific needs of managers and entrepreneurs over the course of their careers. Our portfolio covers both face-to-face modes of delivery, along with innovative blended formats.  Undoubtedly, the cornerstone of the learning process at IE is our faculty, who excel at both teaching and research.

Management has the potential to be one of the noblest professions. . Management and entrepreneurship creates growth, wealth, and development in society; it also creates jobs, catalyses innovation and improves living conditions. Good management offers  one of the best antidotes to many of the world’s ills, a remedy for intolerance or  erroneous foreign policy, promoting as it does  convergence and understanding between peoples.  We need more and better managers and entrepreneurs, and IE Business School is prepared to take on the formidable but captivating challenge in responding to this global demand.
