Javier Quintana can not only boast an outstanding list of academic achievements, but also pride himself in how he has excelled in his chosen career path to become an internationally recognized architect. He holds a Master in Advanced Architectural design from Columbia University, New York and a PhD in Architecture from the University of Navarra, where his doctoral thesis won the Premio Extraordinario. He has also worked as professor of design at the University of Navarra and acted as juror in other Spanish and international institutions. His research projects include numerous publications and collaborations, most notably in the field of high-rise architecture.

In 2007, Javier Quintana was appointed Dean of the School of Architecture at IE University. He also continues to work in his architectural practice, the Taller básico de arquitectura (TBA) with his partner Javier Pérez Herreras. They have worked on numerous projects together and have won a number of prizes and distinctions including 1st prize at Biennial de Sedigas, the FAD, the COAVN, the Construmat, and the Veteco/Asefave prizes. TBA also represented Spain at the prestigious 8th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2002.
