The Hay Festival Segovia and IE University hosted a conversation between Thomas Heatherwick and Martha Thorne on Friday September 29. Heatherwick is the innovative designer of the breath-taking caldron of the Olympic Games in London. During his presentation, he explained the process of creating the caldron, and the emphasis on designing a memorable moment rather than a formal object. This translated into 204 copper petals that represented all the participating countries. Each petal had a different form, yet together they created a spectacular flame that represented the union of all the countries and citizens.
