Lee Newman, Ph.D.The mission of the IE School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is to train a next generation of global professionals who are exceptional in their ability to use data, research, analysis and leadership skills to drive the key decisions and behaviors that are most important to businesses, policymakers and social institutions.
The social, political and economic world in which we live is currently undergoing massive change, driven by advances in our scientific understanding of human behavior. The fields of psychology and neuroscience have shed new light on how people think, feel and make decisions about matters such as what to buy, how much to save vs. spend, how to vote, how to lead, and how to handle the increasing complexities of the modern workplace.
Classical approaches to economics, finance, public policy, management are being updated by new thinking from the fields of behavioral economics, behavioral finance, behavioral policy, and behavioral approaches to business topics such as strategy and marketing. Critically, this "behavioral revolution" is fueling the development of new ideas and practices for how companies, governments and other organizations can better design and deliver their products, services and policies.
With these exciting and disruptive changes come opportunities. Companies need highly skilled professionals who are able to help them understand their customers, manage and make sense of data, manage their environmental footprint, and design and lead a workplace in which employees are engaged, flourishing, and optimally productive. Likewise, governments and political groups are facing the difficult challenge of conducting research and making sense of the voting behavior and attitudes of their constituencies, and the challenges of managing environmental and other national resources.
As a school whose mission is tied directly to professional development, we spend considerable time working with employers to understand their needs – and we have designed all of our programs to meet these needs. Our Masters degrees provide our graduates not only with world-class training in their chosen area of specialization, but also "big picture" training to give them the perspective and critical understanding of how their area of specialization fits within the larger landscape of business, government or society. And our innovative teaching methodology provides our students with the practical, experiential, and interdisciplinary training necessary for successful careers in large and growing areas of the global job market.
We invite you to explore our degree programs and to contact us to learn more about how we can help you start – or accelerate – your career.
