Core Period

In the core courses during the first two periods you will cover the cornerstones of business management and build a solid foundation, expanding your perspective to see the business organization as a whole.

Students can choose to either start the program in September or February of each year in English, Spanish, or bilingually.

Through a third specialization period you will deepen your knowledge in a specific area according to your interests and professional goals. It will provide you the necessary competitive edge to outperform your peers in the job market. You also have the opportunity to extend your Master in Management through the Beyond Borders Experience by choosing to either complete a Dual Specialization, a 3 months long Exchange Program or a Dual Degree (MIM-MIT Sloan or MIM-MIF).

Before the program starts we offer a host of additional opportunities and pre-programs that you can participate in including an intensive Spanish course, a Careers pre-program and Quants Pre-program .

Courses
  • Spanish Survival Course This course, held on campus in Madrid, starts roughly six weeks prior the intake's start date and is designed for students with basic or limited knowledge of Spanish. This 40-hour course is spread over 4 weeks
  • Careers pre-program You will be asked to answer some questions about yourself and your ambitions for the future. Your answers will help our Careers team evaluate your profile and to provide you with specific feedback.
  • Quantitative Analysis This online pre-program is for those who do not come from a financial or mathematical background or those who would like to brush-up on their analytical and quantitative skills.

Introduction to General Program

It sets students up for an intense academic experience and establishes the knowledge and skills necessary for the successful completion of the program. The START MODULE combines seminars and workshops with a great chance to socialize, build relationships with classmates, and to get a feel for IE Business School. It consists of three building blocks: MIM Logistics, MIM Tool Box, and MIM Starter Package.

  • Master in Management Logistics During introductory sessions students will have the opportunity to learn more about the services offered by the Student Office, the Careers Management Center, and the Alumni Association.
  • Master in Management Tool Box The Master in Management Tool Box therefore prepares students in interactive workshops and seminars to work in groups, to collaborate with multicultural teams, and to crack case studies.
  • Master in Management Starter Package The Master in Management Starter Package includes introductory courses and workshops in financial accounting, entrepreneurship, and career strategy.

Business Fundamentals

What makes a successful business? What tools do managers need in order to be successful? These are some of the questions the first Core Period aims to answer. Almost all classes are conducted through the case methodology, meaning that you will learn by doing.  

Additionally, during the first core period, you will be introduced to the module “Career Strategy”

  • Marketing The objective of this course is to introduce you to the concepts, analysis, and activities that comprise marketing management.
  • Financial Markets This course allows you to deeply understand he fundamentals of the investment banking industry and the financial markets where it operates.
  • Financial Accounting The course focuses on how to record economic events in the accounting records and how to prepare and interpret the primary financial statements that summarize a firm's economic transactions.
  • Organizational Behaviour This course teaches the concepts that enable you to understand the workings of an organization and the behavior of the groups and individuals within it.
  • Quantative Methods This course is an introduction to using statistics to solve business problems. You will learn to identify and tackle business problems using quantitative tools and simulators.
  • Financial Management You will study the basic theoretical concepts required for financial decision making, including forecasting techniques, the time value of money concept, and how a firm's cost of capital is calculated and applied.
  • Economic Concepts I This is a two-course program and in the first part you will learn about the basic concepts underlying supply and demand, market structure, and main economic indicators such as GDP, inflation and unemployment.
  • Technology & Innovation Management This course focuses on eabling and transforming roles of IT in creating a long-term vision for the organization in the digital economy.
  • Career Strategy I This program spans across Term I to Term II and offers a magnificent opportunity of developing the skills and leadership competencies that will help maximize your “employability” and “market value”
  • Corporate Immersion Week (CIW) Here you will have the opportunity to visit multinational companies and network with executives, who will share their insights about how to develop a sustainable business strategy. Recent visits include the Madrid Stock Exchange and Accenture.

A practical view of today´s most successful companies

The Corporate Immersion Week is aimed at bringing MIM students closer to companies through practical and hands on projects. Last edition of the CIW was a consulting project based on the design thinking methodology. Students worked with a company in order to redefine a problem and redesign the customer experience to increase loyalty, satisfaction and profits.

During the second period you will learn more about advanced management techniques in modern business. Most courses will focus on the implementation of strategies in global organizations.

In addition, as a continuation of the “Career Strategy” module you will participate in workshops and activities to develop your skills in areas such as networking, negotiations, and communications.

  • Entrepreneurship This course places you in the position of the entrepreneur, you learn to analyze opportunities, evaluate startups and produce complete business plans.
  • Competitive Strategy You will develop a thorough understanding of the internal and external factors that shape a firm's ability to create value, and learn tools to analyze industries, resources and competitive interactions.
  • Operations and Supply Chain Management Here you will learn about the design of operations and processes for gaining a strategic advantage.
  • Creative Management Thinking The objective of this course is to teach you to think critically and creatively. Through this class, you will develop the flexibility to easily adapt to today’s fast changing environment.
  • Economic Environment II Continuing from Term I, the second part of the course will outline the operation of fiscal and monetary policy and how and why policy decisions are made, to give you the tools to anticipate key policy decisions.
  • Corporate Finance This course introduces you to the analysis of the financial structure of business organizations – with the aim to optimize this structure using different financial tools and the most appropriate funding methods.
  • Career Strategy II As part of the program, students participate in workshops and activities to develop their skills in areas such as networking, interviewing, resume, cover letter writing or negotiation.

Global Immersion Week

International trips to top schools or visits to leading companies

The Global Immersion Week is a unique option to further the development of your managerial skills and understanding of a globalized business world by travelling to another country. In the past, students have traveled to Shanghai, San Francisco, Milan and London, but we review the destinations each year!

International Trips
  • Shanghai The theme of the trip is Global Supply Chains, and students get to see firsthand how the Chinese economy is growing and who the main drivers are.
  • San Francisco Students participate in roundtable discussions focused on innovation and high technology markets and visit companies. Past company visits have included Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Accenture.
  • London The theme is Global Markets & Entrepreneurship and students participate in an exchange program with London Business School as well as visiting leading companies in London.
  • Milan The theme of the trip is Luxury Marketing and students go on company visits.
