Antolín Group and Siro Group, success stories in the field of industry
On May 11 the Eduardo Barreiros Foundation and IE Business School held a round table focused on “Entrepreneurs in Industry” to examine the current situation of Spanish industry and the challenges it will face in the future.

Julio Gómez Pomar, Spain’s Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Housing, opened the event, accompanied by Begoña Cristeto, Secretary General of Industry and SMEs. Further participants in the event, which was sponsored by the Banco Sabadell Foundation, included Diego del Alcázar, President of IE Business School; Mariluz Barreiros, President of the Eduardo Barreiros Foundation, and Francisco Vallejo, President of Sabadell Urquijo BP.

Julio Gómez-Pomar talked about the important role transport plays in promoting industrial activity, and the importance of providing land, sea, and air connections at the lowest possible cost. He also mentioned the need to have a regulatory framework to guarantee efficiency and competition. Mariluz Barreiros, underscored the corporate success of the Antolín Group and Siro Group, thanks to their “passion and efforts,” coupled with high levels of competitiveness and a firm commitment to innovation, which has converted them into leaders in their respective sectors.

María Helena Antolín, Vice President of the Antolín Group, which specializes in the production of roofs, doors and automobile seats, talked about how, right from the start, the company has always been faithful to the four basic pillars on which it was built: the condition of being a family business with highly committed shareholders; a solid financial base; internationalization; and innovation - all of which serve to support the company’s strategy. The Antolín Group’s head office is located in Burgos, and the organization operates in 27 countries with a workforce of 27,000 employees.

Juan Manuel González Serna, President of the Palencia-based Siro Group, a leading Spanish company for the production of biscuits and cereal-based products, underlined the importance of relations with suppliers and the alliance the company has with Spanish supermarket giant  Mercadona, who they have served as suppliers since 1998. The alliance has permitted them to achieve a solid rate of growth, making investments of some 364 million euros and building a workforce of 1,500 employees. González Serna also pointed to the Siro Group’s social commitments, with some 4,000 collaborators, 14% of whom are people at risk of social exclusion.

Francisco Vallejo, President of Sabadell Urquijo Private Bank, reminded his audience of Sabadell Bank’s historical vocation for service. “This vocation forms part of our bank’s DNA, and has enabled it, over the years, to become a leading bank for Spanish firms, particularly SMEs.” Further participants in the event included Blanca Montero, Adjunct General Director of Banco Sabadell; Valentín Díez Morodo, Presidenteof the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade (COMCE); and Carlos Espinosa de los Monteros, High Commissioner of the Spanish Government for Brand Spain.
