Spain’s Association of Foreign Press Correspondents award for IE economist Fernando Fernández
Spain’s Association of Foreign Press Correspondents (ACPE) presented its awards for 2014 in the categories of politics, economy, entrepreneurial Innovation, culture and sports, in an event held yesterday at IE Business School.

IE economist Fernando Fernández Méndez de Andés received the award in the economy category. Fernando Fernández has served as an expert in economy at IE Business School since 2009, and has held positions that include Chief Economist of the IMF and Director of Studies Services at Banco Santander, as well as carrying out consulting work in field of macro economics and finance and serving as rector of private universities.

In addition to Fernando Fernández, the ACPE recognized the journalistic work of Ana Pastor and Jordi Évole in Sexta TV’s “El  Objetivo” and “Salvados” programs, awarding them the 2014  ACPE Award in the politics category. The Globalia / Air Europa / Viajes Halcón group also received an award for entrepreneurial innovation and for having transformed their business group into a powerhouse of economic and tourism development in Spain.

Spain’s Royal Academy (RAE), which recently celebrated its third centenary, received the ACPE  award for culture, for “taking care of the language that serves as our work tool,” while the Spain’s Women’s Federations of Basketball, Handball and Badminton were the joint recipients of the ACPE Award in the sports category,  in recognition of their achievements in world championships.

The event took place at the Madrid campus of ACPE sponsor IE, with speakers who included Ramón-Darío Molinary, President of the ACPE, and Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño, Dean of IE Business School.

Founded in 1923 to defend the freedom of the press and to provide support for correspondents, the Spanish Association for Foreign Press Correspondents (ACPE) comprises almost a hundred foreign journalists from over 40 countries. The ACPE organizes information workshops, talks, press conferences, work visits and other activities designed to build contact networks and provide information on the representatives of Spain’s political, social, economic, cultural and sporting spheres.
