US Ambassador to Spain awarded IE Medal

James Costos, the US Ambassador to Spain and the Principality of Andorra, has been awarded the IE Medal.

The distinction is awarded in recognition of the Ambassador’s dedication to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, his firm commitment to human rights, and support afforded to the LGBT community.  The medal was presented to the US Ambassador to Spain during the graduation ceremony for IE’s master’s degree programs, held today in Madrid and presided by Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño, President of IE University.

Relations between Ambassador Costos and IE are driven by shared values and friendship, with a special focus on diversity and equality in business organizations and society. The initiative behind this recognition of Ambassador Costos came from IE students and the IEOut Club, which works to represent the LGBT student community at IE. The distinction was presented in the course of the graduation ceremony for IE master programs by International MBA graduates Matthew Davis, Leonardo Lima, Robert Waters and Michelle Raymond, coordinators of the IEOut Club.

IEOut Club recently received Ambassador Costos at the Annual LGBT@Work Conference, an event designed provide a platform to examine best practices in LGBT diversity management in the workplace. During his address, Ambassador Costos underscored the importance of creating an inclusive work environment which attracts and retains top-tier talent.
