Elena Revilla
DBA Program Director
| The main goal of the DBA Program is to enable outstanding managers to enhance their professional practice by combining academic rigor and managerial relevance, and to equip them with state of the art knowledge in their chosen area of study. Our aim is to produce research-oriented professionals working in management positions in industry and the public sector, with an interest in teaching and in part-time positions in academia. We expect our graduates to take back to their organizations increased understanding and conceptual thinking in the field of business management at the highest level.
To achieve this objective the program format is that of a blended part-time program that eliminates the kind of rift that often develops between learning and career. Because most research is driven by business realities, the program permits both elements to develop simultaneously. The online part of the program permits students to think deeply about issues that interest them, and their workplace provides a practical context to gauge the impact of their research on the practice of management.
OBJECTIVE
The DBA program provides students with fundamental knowledge about the science of management based on the basic disciplines, including sociology, marketing, strategy, finance and operations. Moreover, we aim to train our students in research techniques, including epistemological considerations, and quantitative and qualitative methods.
Knowledge will be acquired through a set of core courses together with methodological sessions, and by establishing a close working relationship with faculty members who will guide students~ knowledge development toward the practice of management. The IE DBA Program is therefore directed at managers who hold a master degree and need professional development and progression to meet the challenges posed by dynamic organizations through management research within current and future work settings.
The capacities and skills that students acquire during the DBA Program include:
- The vision to recognize important and unexplored business issues that are worthy of study.
- A capacity to develop research questions that can be examined empirically following the methods of social sciences.
- The ability to use a variety of research methods to collect, analyze and present data.
- The ability to select suitable methods for the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
- The ability to create knowledge that is of theoretical and practical significance.
- The organization and time-management skills required to follow the entire process of research from the conceptualization of a research question to the recommendations for the development of better management practices.
- An ethical attitude when designing and conducting research.
- The networking skills required to work in collaboration with the business community.
- The writing skills required to present new ideas and knowledge in a coherent way in line with the standards of major management journals.
- The presentation skills required to disseminate to their work in professional conferences at national and international levels.
