| WHAT’S THE DIFERENCE BETWEEN THE DBA AND PHD? |
 |
IE offers two types of doctoral degrees: Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The DBA is equivalent to a conventional PhD in some respects. Both must make a contribution to knowledge and entail rigorous courses with a heavy emphasis on research. The selection of a particular doctoral degree should be base on the research focus and the approach one wishes to apply to that research.
DBA is a professional doctorate for managers. Its focus is on the application of theoretical knowledge to the advancement of the business practice, rather than the development of a new theory. It is a program of research-based management development aimed at developing the capacity to make a significant contribution to management practice. In contrast, PhD focuses on a building a strong foundation in a particular discipline. The DBA keeps the academic rigor, while applies those characteristics to address issues of practical relevance to a manager rather than to an academic. |

Being a doctoral researcher is a unique and stimulating experience. Looking back on one’s doctoral studies, one thanks life for the personal and professional opportunity to experience four marvellous years.
