THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN UNIVERSITY SUPPORT TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP WITH ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITY IN SPAIN: A GEM DATA BASED ANALYSIS
18/3/2007 - Alicia Coduras Martínez, Salustiano Martínez Fierro, Álvaro Rojas Vázquez, David Urbano Pulido
It is assumed that the use of university support mechanisms can have positive effects both on the number of firms created from the university and on the survival rate of these firms. Concretely, Spanish universities have begun to establish supporting measures to create favorable environments for entrepreneurship at the university level. Using Institutional Theory as a theoretical framework (formal institutions -university supporting measures- and informal institutions -university student’s attitudes towards entrepreneurship-) , the main purpose of this research is to analyse the statistical relation between entrepreneurship university support and the level of entrepreneurial activity in Spain.
ENTREPRENEURS’ PERCEPTIONS OF SUCCESS: EXAMINING DIFFERENCES ACROSS GENDER AND FAMILY STATUS
28/1/2007 - Justo, R; Cruz, C. and De Castro J.
Our study examines to what extent female and male entrepreneurs differ in the way they perceive and assess entrepreneurial success, measured by independence or intrinsic measures of success. Our results indicate a number of similarities between men and women entrepreneurs but also reveal interesting gender-based differences related to family status. Rather than assuming that women entrepreneurs are a homogeneous group, we found that family factors, and especially parental status, play a key role in shaping fundamentally different perceptions of entrepreneurial success amongst different types of women entrepreneurs. In particular, women entrepreneurs with dependent children placed more emphasis on independence as a measure of success than other types of entrepreneurs.
