Admissions Process

IE Admissions carries out a rigorous selection process to ensure only the most outstanding candidates make it from the large number of applications. IE seeks highly potential individuals who are dynamic, motivated, and creative, who not only excel in their academic and professional lives, but also offer the kind of interpersonal skills that will allow them to get the most out of the program.

The online application must be completed in the program language. This application helps us learn more about the candidates and confirm if they have the profile we are looking for at IE Law School. Our mission is to get to know past experiences and future aspirations of our candidates in three steps:

1. Basic information: Here we ask for personal and contact information, as well as academic and professional trajectory.

2. More about the candidates: In this section, we ask for more specific information through questions and answers, as well as through another type of innovative formats, through which we want the candidates to tell us who they are. This is an opportunity to understand how the candidates think, their experiences, values and future plans, as well as the features of their life they deem important at IE.

3. Requirements: IE Law School’s different LLM programs have specific requirements which should be met in this block. For more information about requirements, the candidates can visit IE Law School’s Master’s program webpage of their interest. All documentation may be attached that is necessary in the different parts of the application. Additionally, it is possible to save the application at any time throughout the process. The application will not be reviewed by the Admissions Committee until it has been sent and the application fee has been paid. Special value will be given to information showing the candidate's personality, their experience gleaned up until this time, and how they could contribute to the program and the IE community.

The IEGat (IE Global Admissions Test)* has been developed as a means of determining a candidate’s ability to make management-style decisions under pressure. This exam is different to other standardized tests in a number of ways: - Aimed at an international audience (Thus, it does not favor any particular educational system) - A practical exam (As opposed to an academic exam) - No preparation is required (The exam determines participants’ ability to process information and think strategically, rather than regurgitate previously studied patterns or equations). The exam consists of three types of tasks: verbal, numerical and diagrammatical. Questions are scattered randomly throughout the exam, requiring participants to switch rapidly from one line of thinking to another. The exam lasts approximately 80 minutes. Prior to the exam, participants will go over 6 practice questions (2 of each type) with an IE representative. Candidates are allowed to bring a calculator to the exam.
In cases where the exam is performed prior to the submission of the application, the test will only be considered if the application is submitted within the following 45 days.
Instead of the IEGat, candidates may choose to take the GMAT or GRE.

Candidates who have completed and submitted their online application and successfully pass the initial assessment by the Admissions Committee are invited to the interview stage. This phase examines the documentation provided in the online application in greater detail, and is set to evaluate whether the applicant’s profile meets program specific requirements and adds value to the class dynamic.  As the interview is a fundamental element of the admissions process, it is recommended that it be conducted in person. Should an applicant not be able to meet a member of the Admissions Committee on campus in Madrid, interviews may be scheduled via videoconference (Skype), in coordination with an IE event, or with a representative at one of IE’s offices located across 25 countries all over the world.

After the completion of the interview the Admissions Committee will evaluate all aspects of the candidate’s application as a whole and reach its final decision, which will be formally communicated by letter or e-mail. 1. Admission Granted - Admission is granted to those applicants who meet all program specific requirements and whose profiles match the program. 2. Conditional Admission - Conditional Admission is awarded to those candidates who have the right profile for the program but have not yet met some of the mandatory program specific requirements. Once the pending documents have been submitted, the candidate will be granted definite admission. 3. No Admission - The candidate does not fit the class profile. After receiving No Admission the applicant may not reapply to the program until two years from the date of notification of the dismissal have passed. Admission is valid for two intakes, the one to which the candidate has applied to and the next. Admission does not guarantee a place in the program. Therefore candidates are recommended to secure a place by making a place reservation as early on as possible.
