Student Finance Direct

Geographical Area: Europe (United Kingdom)

Content: Student Finance Direct is the principal source of funding in the United Kingdom. All student loans have interest applied to them. This interest rate is based on the annual March retail price index (RPI) or the highest base rate of a number of major banks plus 1%; whichever is lower. The amount you pay back will have broadly the same value as the amount you borrowed and no profit is made on the loan itself. The interest rate is currently 3%. The financial support available to the student is dependent on household income and where you plan to study. 75% of the total loan (depending on your study destination) is non income-assessed, with 25% dependent on total household earning. The current loan entitlement for study overseas is £5,510.

As well as offering student loans, a maintenance grant is available to all students with an annual household income of less than £60,005.

Contact: For more information on grants and funding available to you, consult their website or consult your Local Educational Authority (LEA) website.
