IE Foundation strengthens its commitment to university talent with two new Young Talented Leaders scholarships

Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) and banks EBRD, IFC and Proparco are set to sponsor two scholarships which will enable two Jordanian students to study bachelor degree programs at IE University.

Two young Jordanians will be able to enjoy a “Young Talented Leaders” scholarship at IE University thanks to the agreement signed today by IE Foundation, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), global leader in photovoltaic (PV) solar power plants, and banking institutions EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development), IFC (International Finance Corporation), and Proparco.

These two “Young Talented Leaders” scholarships, sponsored by FRV, provide full coverage of the degree study programs undertaken by two students from Jordan, where the global renewable energy company has projects underway. The first one was awarded to student Sarah Riyad al Atiyat who began her degree in architecture last September. The second will be delivered to an incoming student of the academic year 2017-2018. The two students who receive the scholarships will have a proven excellent academic track record, demonstrable outstanding talent, and an extraordinary entrepreneurial spirit.

The first of these Young Talented Leaders scholarships was awarded in 2015 to Uruguayan student Guzmán Noya, after FRV completed its 64.8 MWp La Jacinta project in Uruguay. In this second edition, the scholarships are related to two projects undertaken by FRV in Jordan, solar power plants Jordan I and Jordan II, of 65 MWp each.

The agreement was signed this morning by Diego del Alcázar, President of IE Foundation, and Rafael Benjumea, CEO of FRV, in the presence of Jordan’s Ambassador to Spain and representatives of the signatory organizations FRV, Abdul Latif Jameel (which owns 100% of FRV), EBRD and Proparco. Others present for the signing of the agreement included the President and CEO of the Abdul Latif Jameel Mohammed Jameel, the Vice President of IE, Diego del Alcázar Benjumea, the Vice President of IE Foundation, Rafael Puyol, the President of IE University’s Board of Governors, Rafael Benjumea, and the Rector of IE University, Salvador Carmona.

The Young Talented Leaders scholarship program permits high-potential students to study a degree at IE University, which has an ambitious financial aid program aimed at ensuring that no brilliant students be prevented from undertaking university studies for economic reasons. In addition to that of FRV, the Young Talented Leaders Scholarship program includes scholarships sponsored by companies like Philyra S.A  and beverage giant AJE.

The scholarship covers all expenses related to the degree course – enrolment, accommodation, academic material, and aid for travel and living expenses during the student’s degree studies at IE University.

There are currently a total of seven students undertaking degree programs thanks to this scholarship program. Said students are from Uruguay, Jordan, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Indonesia and Spain, and two of them are funded thanks to the generosity of students’ parents who have contributed funds to IE Foundation for that purpose. Over 70% of IE University’s student body are from outside Spain, and there are students from some 110 countries on the University’s Segovia and Madrid centers.
