The work, which is called “Wall Path,” was created by Gerardo Ávila Gaona, Patricia Ahumada Bobadilla, Luis Erik García Trujillo, and Aramén Sánchez Chávez, from Morelia, Michoacan (Mexico)

The exhibition at Segovia’s La Real Casa De La Moneda building will run until January 31, featuring all the projects that took part in the contest run by Segovia City Hall and IE University.

Organized by Segovia City Hall in collaboration with IE University, the From Limit To Live it  competition was launched to find the works of art that best showcased the city of Segovia’s Medieval Wall, specifically the north section.

Fifty four entries were presented, from 28 countries in five continents. Countries of origin included Spain, Canada, Germany, Serbia, Russia, South Korea, Switzerland, Indonesia, Philippines, Brazil, Australia, Norway and Egypt. The judges’ panel selected one winner, a project entitled “Wall Path” by Gerardo Ávila Gaona, Patricia Ahumada Bobadilla, Luis Erik García Trujillo, and Aramén Sánchez Chávez, from Morelia, Michoacan (Mexico).

“Wall Path” is based on the idea that light shapes and transforms space, creating optical illusions and changing perceptions. The art project consists of a white light that traces the wall’s silhouette from its upper side, from the Casa Fuerte de los Cáceres (current residence of the Marquis of Lozoya) to the Alcázar. The idea behind it is that visitors can see the wall from a distance as a whole so that their perception of it is changed.  Although it is a temporary work of art, its impact will remain in the memory of those whose day-to-day view of the wall has been radically changed.

The second prize went to “Up, up, and away” by Julia Molina Virué and Vicente Pérez Hernández from Spain, while the third went to “Entre telas, entre muros” by Isaben Manso Cristóbal, Antonio Plaza Novoa and Alicia Serna Crespo, also from Spain. The judges’ panel also announced 10 Honorary Mentions.

Now an exhibition at La real Casa De La Moneda has brought all the projects together under one roof until January 31. Visitors can find all the different artworks that were made to enhance the artistic value of the wall during the regular opening hours of the Ceca Museum

In short, From Limit To Live It has provided a platform for artistic expression that has brought the walls back into the heart of the lives of the citizens of Segovia through the use of light, which is synonymous of life and our origins.
