Work in an IE Lab
IE Labs are IE University’s alternative to traditional internships. Aimed specifically for first and second year students seeking high level internship placements, the IE Labs provide hands-on, internship-like experience on campus, working on projects for leading companies and institutions. Working in an IE Lab is an excellent way to build your professional profile and gain valuable practical knowledge of different sectors.
IE Labs are interdisciplinary and characterized by projects which are consultancy based. Each IE Lab has a portfolio of companies or institutions with which it collaborates and, depending on a company’s needs, students carry out analysis and projects in order to consult on issues affecting the industry or company.

“During my second year at IE University I had the opportunity to work in Deloitte. This was an amazing experience to prove to myself that I was able to cope with a lot of work and perform my best. Only once I started my internship I realized that studying at IE University gave me the right skills and mindset to compete in the working world. Having a solid business background, great communication and team building skills and, above all, being tolerant to different cultures has definitely given me a competitive edge at work.”
Manuel, Class of 2013
“I have had the flexibility to do 4 internships in 3 different countries. I did my second year placement at Adecco Iberia which is a large multinational. This internship was a great experience for me because I had the opportunity to interact with people from many different delegations around the world. It was a dynamic environment where I learnt so much every day. The biggest thing that IE gave me wasn’t just the theory by itself, but also the right mindset to work in a multinational environment. Moreover, the learning process at IE becomes a two ways process because you learn in the working world and then you apply this knowledge again back in class.”
Josephine, Class of 2014
“I worked for Ernst & Young for 9 months in the internal auditing department that provides consulting for clients specifically targeted at improving efficiency and managing risk. I then got an internship at UBS Global Asset Management Real Estate that lasted 6 months. At a professional level, I am fortunate to be in my last year at IE University and to have had already two years of working experience at top companies, with amazing contacts and industry know-how. At a personal level, my experience in the consulting and asset management industry makes clearer the choice of where I want to develop my career. At IE University one does not only learn the theory but also the practical aspects of working in a company.”
Patricia, Class of 2014

Alicia MillanI now have friends from every continent ......
When I started to look for a place to study that would prepare me to reach my future and professional goals, one of the most important criteria for me was an international university. So for me, IE University is the place to study and get to know different cultures. And it’s a unique place, a historical monument, and at the same time very modern. Who would’ve said a year ago I would now have friends from every continent?

Thanks to the internships, you can try different things before deciding what you want to dedicate your life to, and if you don’t like something, you’ll have the chance to try something else, and probably find what you want to do and evolve. That way, when you become a professional you’ll have that experience in your life and on your CV.

I think the experience in the labor market is fundamental during your Bachelor studies at IE University, as you learn a lot working on projects and with real problems, putting into practice what you have been learning in a classroom.
