plegar/desplegarSegovia: a wealth of history and culture
Segovia is renowned the world over as a vibrant and diverse historic city, and was recognized as such when it was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1985. It is located in the Castile and Leon region of Spain and boasts an abundance of historical buildings, spectacular architecture and a unique atmosphere to study in.
Bordering the provinces of Madrid, Burgos, Ávila, and Soria, Segovia is just half-an-hour’s drive from Madrid, and easily accessible by train, bus, or car. The city of Segovia provides a perfect setting for the IE University campus and its students.
Segovia is a fairytale city full of narrow, twisting alleyways, Romanesque churches, and beautiful buildings. It is not just a city to be admired from afar, but a great place to live. The people of Segovia are well known for their hospitality and always welcome visitors with open arms. The province of Segovia has always been famous for its cuisine, which means a delicious traditional meal is never far away.
Breathtaking Roman architecture
Segovia owes much of its rich culture to its importance in Roman and Medieval times. Over the years, the famous Alcazar castle, which looks down on the city, has been the setting for historical events of world importance. It was here, for example, that Queen Isabella of Castile was crowned in 1474. The Alcazar is currently one of the most visited historical monuments in Segovia, alongside the city’s Roman Aqueduct and its Cathedral. The 29 meter-tall Aqueduct was built during the first century A.D. and is probably the most amazing feat of civil engineering in Europe and one of the best preserved monuments from the Roman occupation of Spain.
Madrid: a Forward-looking City
Madrid is the capital of Spain and is the center of political, government and financial life. The largest Spanish companies and major multinational corporations have their headquarters in the city, which make it an ideal location to conduct global business. Madrid is a magnet for foreign investment from European and Asian countries and is also the launch pad for Latin America, which is one of its closest allies. This frenetic business activity takes place in the heart of the city in the Paseo de la Castellana which is the location of IE University's Madrid campus.
Madrid’s strategic location in the center of Spain is the starting point for the country's main motorways and high-speed trains, which link it to all the major Spanish cities. Barajas International Airport is located only minutes from central Madrid.
The city of Madrid is synonymous with vibrant nightlife and great entertainment, and is bursting with art and culture, from the historic Plaza Mayor to the world famous Prado Museum.
In short, Madrid has become one of the world’s major players in combining in the advantages of a great metropolis with the needs of an active student life.

I feel comfortable in Segovia ......Alex Warzecha
I have a friend in Salamanca and another in Madrid. Seems like their experience has been good but they haven’t connected with the people as well as I have. It's kind of a smaller city and it’s the size I feel comfortable with.

There is a lot to do here ......Cécile Houlès
I was used to living in big cities and I wasn’t sure what it would be like in a small city lie this but I found there is in fact a lot of activity and a lot going on here.

You have the peace of living in the country and a small city......Teymour Benet
You have the peace of living in the country and a small city, but at the same time you’re 25 minutes away from Madrid.
