Q&A WITH RAQUEL

What three words would you use to describe IE Alumni?

Curious, proactive, and unexpected

Could you tell us about the application process and your role at Loewe?

When I began my master’s degree, I was sure about what I wanted to do in my professional future. Something related to creativity and design (art, fashion, furniture, etc.). LOEWE has always been one of my favourite brands and my first professional contact with them was at the IE Career Fair. After I spoke to a recruiter, I became really interested.

Then two months before finishing the master, LOEWE opened some positions through the IE Careers portal and I applied (not to any specific role, since they did not announce which roles were available). After about one month of asking for an update they finally called me for the first interview, which was a phone interview asking some general questions about me. After that I had a to do some virtual assessments, a Skype interview, and lastly -after some suffering- the personal assessment, which was a whole day of interviews, activities, and group dynamics. I got the job!

It was worth it.

Tell us about the day in the life of what you do at Loewe.

I’m in the Marketing area, to be more specific in the creativity department. I’m in charge of creating the concept of each product/campaign and developing it. That means first creating briefings regarding the name of the product, the storytelling, the values, the visual imagery, etc. And, after all of that is finished, we make it a reality. We have to execute the campaign shootings, POS actions, content creation, and much more.

Many people don’t know that you are an incredible singer, can you tell us more about Chole’s Clue?

This is my beloved personal passion project. It’s very similar to what I do in LOEWE (once I have my songs ready I have to create the concept, the visual imagery, PR activations, and so on), but here I create my own pieces, a very personal and uninhibited pieces. I recently released my last album called “Carmín y Rubor” and will be performing on December 10th here in Madrid at the Moby Dick Club.

How did your experience at IE prepare you for your professional career?

In a very practical and, therefore, realistic way. With classes and practices that have the essence and look and feel very similar to a day in the office: debates, practical lessons, real cases exercises, teamwork, etc.

What is the competitive advantage that studying at IE provided you?

Learning to work in an international environment and being able to learn from wonderful professionals in the sector.

Do you have any advice for IE students and alumni who are looking to pursue a career in Creativity?

You must have your eyes wide-open all the time and stay up-to-date in the arts sector by reading a lot (lots of weird and delicious books), going to exhibitions (big and tiny ones), following emerging artists (they are always surprising), to name a few.

What skills do you consider are needed to succeed in your field?

No mental boundaries! You need to be able to generate ideas that can be disruptive and, more importantly, you have to be strategic because to be efficient in creativity you need to know how to frame your creativity, you need to know which path you should take. Creativity without strategy would be merely artistic, and that is not what a company is about.

Tell us about the IE alumni community and the impact they have had in your life and/or career.

My MCMC class was a very connected and I have a very close relationship with a lot of them, mainly with the ones that are still living here in Madrid. They have become not only family but also a strong network.

What skills would you recommend job seekers develop in order to make them more competitive in today’s workforce?

More group dynamics to assess social skills, which are key in work life and more real day-to-day assessments.

What’s the best career advice you have ever been given?

Do what you say you’re going to do.

Why did you choose the MCMC program at IE University?

I studied journalism but, while working, I realised I really enjoyed the marketing area and so I wanted to widen my knowledge in that area. I chose this program because of the classes it offers, such as branding, content marketing, and visual storytelling.

What is one thing you wished you knew, when you were a student?

Please, keep all your notes, books, lectures, EVERYTHING organised and well-kept because then it will be more useful than you have ever thought, especially all the wonderful notes from IE teachers.
