IE Business School presents Awards for Economic Journalism in Spain and Portugal

TVE’s “Emprende” program, journalist Marta García Aller from Actualidad Económica, and Nuno Aguiar and Antonio Larguesa from Portugal’s Diario de Negocios, are the winners of the first edition of the IE Business School Prize for Economic Journalism in Spain and Portugal, sponsored by Lufthansa.

The overriding objective of the prizes, awarded for work focused mainly on corporate internationalization, is to recognize work undertaken by journalists and reporters working for Spanish and Portuguese media which serves to disseminate economic culture. The competition has been run on an annual basis for Economic Journalism in Latin America since 2010, together with an Asian edition which commenced in 2013.

TVE’s “Emprende” program, presented in the Spanish National TV channel by Juan Manuel Romero, was the winner of the “Best Hispano-Portuguese Communication Media” for its work providing information on the entrepreneurial ecosystem with a special focus on Latin America, Spain and Portugal. Marta García Aller was awarded a prize for her report entitled “El Gran Hermano que controla Zara (The Big Brother controlling Zara)” about the Inditex Group’s Technology Center. The article, published in Actualidad Económica, received first prize in the “Best Journalistic Work in Spanish Media” category. Nuno Aguiar and Antonio Larguesa were recognized for their article headed “Vinho para o Nepal e Cabos eléctricos para o Burundi” about new markets for Portuguese exports. The article, published in Diario de Negocios, was the winner of the “Best Journalistic Work Published in Portuguese Media.”

The judges panel responsible for evaluating the short-listed works comprised journalists from international media that included International New York Times, Exame, CCTV - China Central Television, Grupo Milenio, Notimex and Globo News, from institutions that included ACPE, and directors from IE Business School and Lufthansa.  In addition to the winners, the finalists in this first edition of the IE Business School Prizes for Economic Journalism in Spain and Portugal were Valentín Bustos, from Capital magazine, Ana Torres from El País newspaper, and Juan Emilio Ballesteros, from Cambio 16, in the Spanish media category, and Carolina Reis, journalist for Exame, Margarida Cardoso, a reporter for Expresso, and Sara Piteira, from Diario Económico in the Portuguese media category.

The prizes will be awarded on May 27 during the IE Business School’s Alumni Forum 2016, the key annual event for IE graduates, set to take place at the Santiago Bernabéu Football stadium in Madrid.
