IE Professor Gayle Allard Wins Annual MERLOT Award
The “Economic Policy Simulator” created by IE Business School Professor Gayle Allard, alongside the School’s Multimedia Content Development team, has received top honors in the Business Classics 2015 category of the Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT) Awards program.

This award recognizes outstanding online resources that enhance teaching and learning through contribution to the academic community.

The Economic Policy Simulator enables students to view the impact of economic policies on a variety of factors and receive feedback on their decisions. Playing in groups or on their own, students choose a country and receive information regarding economic facts and trends of that country’s performance. They then follow the simulating through a series of decision-making exercizes which help them understand the interrelationships between economic policy decisions and how they affect other variables.

According to the MERLOT Business Editorial Business Board, The Economic Policy Simulator “was named as a Business Classic because it helps students learn by actually doing. The students have the opportunity to determine how decisions they make can impact the economy. It is internationally relevant in today’s business environment.”

To date, more than 6,000 IE students have used the Economic Policy Simulator.  Other schools and educators interested in incorporating the Economic Policy Simulator into their curriculum can contact iepublishing@ie.edu for more information.
