ShopBack, an e-commerce startup that uses the cashback reward system to enable customers to get a portion of their cash back when they buy using the service, has won the Global Mobile Challenge, a competition run by IE Business School to reward the best mobile apps and solutions developed by young entrepreneurs around the world.

Following the semi-finals of the competition, held in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the US, the ten finalists of this edition were:

  • Protect Me: A smart insole that prevents foot ulcers form worsening.
  • Confbot: A chatbot assistant used to help event organizers improve communication with participants.
  • Securella: A security app for women.
  • BatleMe: An app that serves as a substitute for a recording studio.
  • Hug Innovations Corp: A smartwatch that controls body language.
  • Rocket Pin: An app that captures information at points of sale through consumers.
  • Treepex: An app that innovates the way to plant trees.
  • Wings4all: An innovative mobility solution.
  • RehabGlove: A device that is compatible with the virtual reality that helps patients who have had a cerebrovascular accident.

"The Global Mobile Challenge has changed the mentality of students around the world in recent years,” says Paris L'Etraz, managing director of the IE Business School Venture Lab. “Few things permit students to experience the feeling and thought processes of starting a business the way developing mobile solutions does. Innovation today is far more closely related with an emotional interaction and the mobile device is increasingly the way to promote such an interaction.”

IE Business School runs the competition in collaboration with 4YFN [4 Years From Now], a business platform run by Mobile World Capital Barcelona for technology-based startups. The overriding objective of the competition is to afford recognition of the best innovative mobile apps and solutions developed by young entrepreneurs, and to serve as an interface for investors and members of the public specialized in promoting networking in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
