IE presents 6 million euro scholarship fund for women

IE presents #IEWomen, a special fund with an endowment of 6 million euros for scholarships aimed at women. The key objective of #IEWomen is to enable the world’s best female talent to undertake IE programs, giving priority to women in the fields of technology, entrepreneurship and leadership, or women in Africa.

Since its inception IE has been committed to diversity as one of its core values. The overriding aim of #IEWomen is to promote career development among women with a special focus on the field of technology, shaping an entrepreneurial mindset and building leadership skills. “It is important to know what women want in terms of management education, career, and future success,” says Celia de Anca, director of IE Foundation’s Center for Diversity, which is running the initiative. “Understanding how success is perceived and defined is key to fostering diversity among students. Our ideas about what constitutes success have changed. Success does not mean the same for everyone. One of the #IEWomen initiatives is the “Colors of Success” campaign, which explores these differences and shows IE’s recognition of them, given that success is a very different life project for each one of us.”

#IEWomen – An ongoing commitment

In addition to providing additional financial support for students, the #IEWomen scholarships will also be extending the Mentors Program to facilitate mentoring relations among students, alumni and the international business community.  The initiative will also center on the creation of the IE Women website and a blog whereby it will share information on events related to women, initiatives and activities of the ‘Colors of Success’ campaign, articles and blogs of IE women leaders, and material designed to support the most influential women leaders in the university sector and promote their work on an international level.

Some 39% of IE’s Faculty are women, as are 30% of IE’s undergraduate, graduate and executive education students. The #IEWomen project will provide ongoing support for women to help them achieve their personal and professional goals, understand the barriers they face, work to overcome those barriers and further their development.  “More women in the classroom means more women in future top positions and more women entrepreneurs, investors and decision-makers in the global sphere,”  says Celia de Anca.

“IE’s commitment to diversity is there to see on our campus and in our programs. Over 60,000 students, graduates and professors from more than 160 countries make up an ecosystem rich in visions and ideas,” says Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño, Executive President of IE University.  “IE’s continuous commitment to supporting current and future generations of women leaders will help attract more women to our programs and academic projects, which will translate into more women leaders for society in their respective fields.”

Initiatives like #IEWomen, launched by IE Foundation through its Center for Diversity Management, created in 2002, help foster diversity as a competitive advantage in the corporate world through knowledge generation and the dissemination of know-how. The Center’s key objectives include examining the impact of diversity management on the business world, developing management education programs, and promoting reflection, debate, and the exchange of experiences in the field of diversity.
