PUBLIC LECTURE: “The Technology Challenge: New aesthetic and communicative strategies in the Post-Media age, a socio cultural analysis”.

IE School of Communication (IE University) invites you to the 36th meeting “Scientists and Professionals in Communication” Series 2010-2011, where Carolina Fernández Castrillo, Open University of Madrid (UDIMA), will give a talk in English entitled “The Technology Challenge: New aesthetic and communicative strategies in the Post-Media age, a socio cultural analysis”.

Abstract: The advent of new media presents an essential challenge to our understanding of visual representation, of narrative and indeed the whole art of the moving image. The Center for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe, Germany is one of the most innovative centres for New Media Art. Known as the Digital Bau-Haus this institution promotes interesting projects about the new challenges of digital culture in XXI century.

The ZKM Instituted for Visual Media, created in 1991 by Jeffrey Shaw is a forum for the creative and critical discussion of the constantly changing media culture. Since its foundation, it has been one of the leading international institutes for research and production at the intersection of digital art and information technology. New narrative forms in hypertexts, multimedia, interactive broadcast and screen media are constantly redefining the relationship between the creators of content and their audiences.

It will be interesting to reflect about some recent projects and to revise some of the current communication theories such as remediation intorduced by Jay David Bolter and Richard Grusin, remix culture by Lev Manovich or postmedia condition by Peter Weibel.
