BONDING WITH OUR IE FOUNDATION FELLOWS
At IE Foundation, we live by our deeply held commitment to the power of ‘Talent Taking Care of Talent’. For this reason, we dedicate a significant part of the donations made by students, alumni, parents, corporate partners, and other benefactors to provide scholarships to talented candidates.
The IE Foundation Fellows, members of an Honors program that brings together a selected group of past and present students with extraordinary academic and extracurricular profiles, are beneficiaries of some of those scholarships.
They establish exclusive and lasting relations with peers, teachers, sponsors, partners, and the team of the IE Foundation, and have access to valuable networking opportunities through activities organized by IE Foundation and IE University. They are committed IE Foundation ambassadors and mentors, highly motivated to make a positive impact on our community, first as students and then as Alumni.
Among the many actions we carry out to promote a strong connection between the Fellows and boost their sense of belonging to the IE community, in the first part of 2021 we organized several exclusive events for the members of this Program:
Trust & Sustainable Leadership in Times of Change
On March 4th, the whole IE Foundation Fellows community welcomed the Fellows with intake Spring 2021 with a dedicated event on leadership in times of change.
The event, held at the Madrid IE University campus, featured top-level speakers such as Gonzalo Garland (Vice President of the IE Foundation), Juliana Naranjo Pereira (Chief of IE Campus Life), Cristina Santos Echevarría (Head of Financial Aid & Student Services at IE University) and Balvinder Singh Powar (Adjunct Professor at IE University and Managing Director & Spain’s CCO at BOOSTER Space Industries).
Professor Singh Powar led an inspiring Master Class on the importance of seeing the bright side of things, and of trusting and being empathetic to one another, especially during difficult times.
After his engaging words, the attending IE Foundation Fellows, both in-person and online, opened up to the rest of the participants about their personal stories and shared exceptional examples of courage, empathy, resilience, and leadership.
Last May 18th we invited the Fellows at the Segovia Campus to enjoy a special lunch at the iconic restaurant Meson de Cándido, a classic of the Segovian gastronomy.
It was a bonding moment in which younger Fellows got to talk to more veteran ones and exchange ideas about the Program and their respective experiences at IE University.
Furthermore, the IE Foundation team joined the gathering, as a way for the Fellows to meet the staff behind the different activities they participate in and to share directly with us their views and expectations over a tasty cochinillo asado.
Free Speech and Dangerous Ideas in the Digital Age
On May 25th, we brought the Humanities to our IE Foundation Fellows program through the hybrid Masterclass on ‘Free Speech and Dangerous Ideas in the Digital Age’ held by Professor María José Ferrari in the special setting of IE’s Paper Pavillion, a pioneering building designed by the renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban at the Madrid Campus.
Professor Ferrari, who has authored many publications and currently serves as Academic Head of IE Arts and Humanities Division, shared with us her insight on free speech in the age of disinformation, cancel culture, and digital echo chambers.
“No matter what’s happened in history, even if for many reasons they have decided there is a need to restrict freedom of speech, we can say there’re five general values we still need to defend: self-fulfillment, discovering the truth, participation in a Democracy, suspicion of authority, and living with diversity.” – Professor María José Ferrari
After the Masterclass, the Fellows enjoyed a private cocktail where they had the opportunity to socialize with their peers and to talk about their academic and personal development at IE University.
