The competition, which was organized by the European Law Students' Association (ELSA) in collaboration with the European Council, allowed students to see firsthand how the European Court of Human Rights operates by working on a hypothetical case before the court. Rather than exploring jury trials, this competition simulates appeal and arbitration rights cases which fall under the European Convention on Human Rights.See more

Law Scholarship Programs Partners
White & Case—one of the world’s most prestigious law firms—offers a scholarship to study a master’s program at IE Law School, kick-starting students’ professional careers. The scholarship is awarded annually to the student presenting the best undergraduate final project. In 2018, Maria Gracia Pujadas was the recipient of this scholarship thanks to her thesis titled, “Towards a Common European Law on Illegal Contracts.” The 2017 recipient, Hanna Jelezovskaia from Belarus, was chosen for this scholarship as a result of her project titled, “Human Dignity in Law and Bioethics: Regulating Human Enhancement.” Both students recognize that their effort, perseverance and in-depth research have been the key factors for their academic success.See more
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LAW SCHOOLS
We are members of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS), a private, non-political and non-profit society whose mission is to support the community of institutions focused on providing proper training in law with the goal of improving legal education around the world. In 2015, our school hosted two of the association’s major events: The Global Deans Forum and The IALS Annual Meeting.
LAW SCHOOLS GLOBAL LEAGUE
We are also part of the Law Schools Global League, an institution that brings together a select number of law schools from around the world. Its aim is to promote worldwide academic debate on the education and practice of law as a global discipline. In similar fashion, the league develops initiatives which contribute to teaching methodologies, and creates a research agenda.
Our membership in the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) allows our students to participate in one of the world’s most prestigious European law competitions. ELSA is an international non-profit organization which is managed independently by participating students. Some of our master’s students found out about IE Law School thanks to this institution. As ELSA members, we share the goal of providing future lawyers with the highest standards of excellence in education.
In order to provide the opportunity to practice law in the United States to our students from el Doble Máster de Accceso a la Abogacía, as well as those enrolled in the LL.M. in International Business Law, IE Law School has signed an agreement with BARBRI. With this agreement, students can take the California BAR Exam, which simultaneously adds value to these degree programs.
INTERNATIONAL BAR ASSOCIATION
As part of the International Bar Association—the world’s leading organization of legal practitioners, bar associations and international legal companies—IE Law School participates in several of its committees. Our own dean, Javier de Cendra, acts as an officer on the Environmental Committee, while our vice dean of international relations, Soledad Atienza, is an advisor to the Academic and Professional Development Committee.
Furthermore, we have earned a European Module, a prestigious award given by the European Commission to those institutions characterized by their innovative approach to law education.
LAW WITHOUT WALLS
We also collaborate with the Law Without Walls program, which is an initiative designed to bring together companies and more than 100 students from law schools and businesses worldwide with the goal of developing solutions that respond to the real-world problems of today’s legal sector. Within this program, students receive advice from international mentors who push them to innovate and think creatively.
Dean of IE Law School discusses the future of legal education at enlightED 2019
Javier de Cendra led a discussion panel on "Reinventing Legal Education in the Era of the Tech Revolution" at enlightED in Madrid. Leading experts discussed the main challenges faced by legal education, including technology, globalization and ethics.
“Law schools have forgotten what it means to train lawyers… Law is a vocation designed to help others.” This is how Javier de Cendra, Dean of IE Law School, opened the eye-opening discussion entitled Reinventing Legal Education in the Era of the Tech Revolution at enlightED in Madrid.
The talk, which took place on the massive enlightED stage, included three expert panelists: Almudena Arpón de Mendívil, Secretary-General of the International Bar Association (IBA); Jorge Cerdio, from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México; and Gonzalo Matías, representing the Católica Global School of Law and Co-President of the Law School´s Global League.
Javier opened the discussion reviewing the current state of legal education—specifically in the United States—claiming that the field has been resistant to change. While panelists were all in agreement on this, they each had their own interesting theories and insights as to why.”
