Bachelor students visit the Supreme Court of Justice

On Thursday 26th of October second year students from BBA-LL.B. and BIR-LL.B. (Madrid Campus) were given the opportunity to visit the “Tribunal Supremo de España”, the highest court of Spain in all legal fields (Civil, Criminal, Contentious-Administrative and Labour).

The group enjoyed a private guided tour through the prestigious chambers of the ancient Convento de las Salesas Reales, which used to be a castle of the Spanish crown, as explained by José Maria Blanco. Following the general tour, Bachelor of Law students were able to meet Francisco Marín Castán, the president of the First Chamber (Primera Sala) dealing with Civil Law matters. For one hour Francisco Marín Castán answered highly interesting questions concerning, inter alia, Article 155 of the Spanish Constitution in regard to Cataluña, the general interpretation of the law and the independence of judges.

The visit was organized by Civil Law Professor María Xiol, who gave an extensive information session about the structure of the Spanish judiciary prior to the visit.

"We are truly honoured that IE University together with Professor María Xiol enabled us with the rare opportunity of visiting the Supreme Court".
