“The official recognition of our Architecture Studies Bachelor Degree by India’s Council of Architecture represents a significant professional milestone for our program.”
Martha Thorne, Dean of IE School of Architecture and Design

“It paves the way for our students to practice in a country where the future of architecture must address rapid urbanization and sustainability, while respecting India’s unique and various cultures, and traditions.”

“Students who want to develop their professional career in India can now come and study at IE University and participate in internships, gaining the experience and network that the academic institution offers. This recognition offers equal opportunities for employment without requalification in India after graduating,” says Ruth Dominguez, Sector Head of A&D and Real Estate, IE University Talent & Careers.

IE School of Architecture and Design student Nivedita Huple (Class of 2022) is one of the first graduates able to take advantage of the opportunity to practice architecture in India thanks to our recognition in that country. “As an ambassador for IE University, I often talk to prospective students and many from India ask me about issues that concern them, especially how to develop careers in their country,” says architecture student Nivedita Huple. “I am sure that many more will come to study in Spain now that it’s possible to go back to India and be able to practice there as well. It’s always good to have it as an option.”

The Council of Architecture in India is responsible for regulating the education and practice of the profession, in addition to maintaining the country’s official register of architects. Its decision to recognize IE University’s Bachelor of Architecture Degree follows a review by the Council’s expert committee of IE University’s requirements for admission, course duration, the standards of its faculty and course content, as well as examinations and practical experience. In order to practice independently, architects in India require both academic and professional accreditation.
