KREAB GOVUP

KREAB GOVUP

As part of a core element of our Master in International Relations at IE School of International Relations, a group research project took place in partnership with Kreab, a renowned internationally consultancy group located in Madrid.

Our main goal was to assist within Kreab’s GovUp platform. GovUp is a policy lab platform for public and regulatory innovation. It focuses on designing methodologies for more efficient governance that better stimulates innovation in the public sector, especially though building relationships between the public and private sectors.

First, we looked at the global trends that the OECD identified for 2018, along with relevant international case studies. Second, we researched the Innovation and Digital Public Policy Initiatives taking place in Estonia, Canada and Taiwan. Third, we analyzed the gig-economy in Europe and conducted a report about the EU’s main lines of work from mid-2017 to mid-2018. Fourth, as Spanish politics became increasingly complex, we concluded our work by looking for the sweet spots and possible agreements that can take place between the relevant political parties – Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), Ciudadanos (C’s) and Unidos Podemos – when the new government came into power. Moreover, and perhaps most importantly, we were able to use all our research as points of reference to suggest lines of action for Spain.

Our interactions with Kreab generated a very educational experience for the whole group and we are delighted for having the chance to work with such an impactful organization. Our assignments and conversations exposed us to a very interesting and relevant area of discussion that will prove to be valuable to most of our upcoming careers.

Our team’s favorite part about the Capstone Project with Kreab was the ability to research and analyze real-life issues from today’s world that are constantly discussed in the international arena. The case studies we prepared were and still are particularly helpful in giving us clear examples of governments that are on the forefront of public sector innovation and how we can learn from them.

The Capstone project has turned out to be a profoundly enriching experience both from the perspective of knowledge acquisition and from that of understanding how a public affairs company functions. In that sense, our Capstone with Kreab turned out to be a holistic project where we learned to deal with issues ranging from team management to the analysis of the particulars of Spanish politics.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL MOST PROUD ABOUT REGARDING THE EXPERIENCE?

We feel most proud of the fact that Kreab always trusted us to add our own value to their requirements. The team gave us enough autonomy to come up with proposals or solutions for the issues we were looking into. This was very significant for us as we felt that we were not only being encouraged to contribute to the research, but that we were clearly being heard and considered throughout the entire process.

HOW WOULD DESCRIBE THE EXPERIENCE?

The reality of working with a diverse group of teammates significantly contributed further to our experience with Kreab. It was very beneficial to work closely with team members who came from different corners of the world and brought different strengths and sets of knowledge to the table. Our diverse educational backgrounds further improved our team’s forte as we were able to consider challenges from multiple perspectives.
