Dear students,
As Director of the Master in Architecture, and in the name of the Programme’s team of faculty and staff, it is my pleasure to welcome you to this new chapter in your academic journey. My sincere congratulations for having completed a challenging path in your architectural studies so far. Well done!
There is no doubt. You are in the right place to push the boundaries of the architectural profession, and we have prepared a programme that is unique in many ways to help you in such endeavour. The Master in Architecture combines the rigorous training required to achieve professional licensure in Spain and the European Union with an international, entrepreneurial, and sustainable approach. In tune with the international DNA of our University, the Master in Architecture has a global focus with a study plan that will take you from Madrid to Amsterdam for a three-week workshop led by Thesis Chair Ben Van Berkel and his team at UN Studio. In addition, building on IE’s tradition of excellence in management education, we have integrated an intensive Design Management Module that will not only teach you how to run a firm, but also how to structure a future career around you own abilities and interests. This combined with a small size class provides the perfect breeding ground from which to foster critical conversations and lifetime friendships, as well as constant interactions and collaborations with the faculty cohort.
We are eager to help you define your professional path so that you become an active agent in the built environment, but your role is key. At IE University in general, and at the School of Architecture and Design in particular, we foster a healthy, just, and ethical environment. I encourage you to take on this academic step with rigour and passion, and we are looking forward to hearing your feedback and help us improve our Programme.
As the architectural professional that you already are, you will enjoy the autonomy to pursue personal interests in all courses of the Master in Architecture. We are interested in listening to questions for which we all need to work together to seek for answers. You are set to provide the means to rethink the professional practice in ways that challenge disciplinary conventions, shapes, programs, and paths, while providing ways to tackle the most pressing problems of our time. Only by doing so you’ll be able to become useful in today’s built environment. That is the ultimate goal of our efforts at IE University.
Welcome to the Master in Architecture. You’ve already done a great job. Now it’s time to jump into a next level. Let’s get started!
Yours Sincerely,
MARCELA ARAGÜEZ
Director, Master in ArchitectureIE School of Architecture & Design
