But in 2024, women still make up only 29% of senior leadership roles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/featured-insights\/diversity-and-inclusion\/women-in-the-workplace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to McKinsey<\/a>, and only <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2023\/06\/05\/women-hold-10-4-of-fortune-500-ceo-jobs-a-sign-that-companies-are-recognizing-the-value-of-diverse-leadership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10%<\/a> of Fortune 500 companies are headed by women CEOs. Despite facing unique challenges, female executives are scaling the corporate ladder faster than ever. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ie.edu\/business-school\/programs\/mba\/global-executive-mba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Executive MBA<\/a> is becoming more popular with these professionals, providing a career-building experience that meets women leaders\u2019 specific needs.&nbsp;Let&#8217;s take a look at the challenges being overcome to improve the executive presence for women in top boardrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-then-and-now-why-isn-t-the-c-suite-more-diverse-nbsp\">Then and now: why isn\u2019t the C-suite more diverse?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Labor markets have completely transformed since the heyday of the corporate boom at the start of the 20th century. From companies to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/what-we-do\/leadership-and-political-participation\/facts-and-figures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">governments<\/a> and third-sector organizations, women are making their presence felt in executive leadership\u2014and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/drsamanthamadhosingh\/2024\/03\/07\/5-reasons-more-women-leaders-are-needed-at-the-top\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">generating immense value and impact<\/a> along the way.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, certain conscious and unconscious biases still make it harder for high-potential female talent to access top management positions. Outdated gender roles also reinforce the glass ceiling, a unique barrier hindering upward mobility to leadership for women in many parts of the world.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-but-the-tides-are-turning-and-initiatives-like-international-women-s-day-are-moving-the-needle-on-gender-equality-issues-on-a-broad-scale-similarly-our-global-executive-mba-is-at-the-forefront-of-educating-up-and-coming-women-executives-board-members-and-ceos\">But the tides are turning, and initiatives like International Women\u2019s Day are moving the needle on gender equality issues on a broad scale. This was certainly the case for Carmen de Diego, a business development director, when she joined the program. \u201cIt is not easy,\u201d she states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, we had a chance to catch up with Carmen and dove deeper into her experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-motivated-you-to-choose-the-global-executive-mba\">What motivated you to choose the Global Executive MBA?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I valued the prestige of the institution. Being from Segovia, one could think I\u2019m biased, but it\u2019s a fact that IE University is highly rated in all the international rankings. But there is never a perfect time to take on extra work; the \u2018why\u2019 is more important than the \u2018when\u2019 in this case. Focusing on the outcome and what you want to achieve\u2014seeing what you have to gain\u2014will make the effort worth it. Don\u2019t wait for the right time, because I don&#8217;t think there is such a thing for an MBA.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-do-you-balance-your-studies-with-your-professional-and-personal-responsibilities\">How do you balance your studies with your professional and personal responsibilities?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;That is the most challenging part. But planning, time management, prioritization, delegation and\u202fcommunication are paramount and make things easier. For me, it\u2019s about enjoying the experience, keeping a positive attitude and not surrendering to stress.
