Space infrastructure powers telecommunications, navigation, climate monitoring, disaster response and national security systems around the world. As governments and companies expand their reliance on satellites and orbital systems, they need professionals who understand how the sector operates, who shapes it and how it evolves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To meet that demand, IE School of Science & Technology has launched the AeroSpace Technology Specialization<\/a>. Coordinated by Elena Grifoni Winters<\/a>, former Head of the ESA<\/a> Director General\u2019s Cabinet, the specialization trains students to navigate governance, regulation, business and security in the space sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to build a career in space, this specialization gives you the strategic foundation to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why the space sector is expanding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Elena describes space as \u201cthe fastest-moving frontier we have.\u201d Over the last 10\u201315 years, the sector has evolved rapidly as business, science and security have converged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technological advances have accelerated this growth. Miniaturization lowers launch costs by reducing payload mass. Artificial intelligence improves onboard processing and satellite safety. Additive manufacturing enables in-orbit production and maintenance. \u201cWhen you cut the cost, you\u2019re also attracting new people that couldn\u2019t afford it before,\u201d Elena notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, governments remain central actors. \u201cThe principal customer remains government,\u201d she says. As defence institutions increase their investment in space-based systems, the sector demands professionals who can understand technology and governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What you will study<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The AeroSpace Technology Specialization builds the knowledge required to operate in the institutional and strategic dimensions of space. It does not train engineers; it trains decision-makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will develop:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Technical literacy in space systems and operations<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Expertise in governance and regulation, including international frameworks<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Business and financial analysis skills applied to space markets and projects<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Understanding of defence and security dynamics shaping the sector<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Leadership and management capabilities tailored to a public-private ecosystem<\/p>\n\n\n\n
