Ask Amir Dehghan to describe himself in a meeting, and he doesn\u2019t reach for a job title. He reaches for a habit, saying,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve\u00a0always been the person in the room who says, \u2018I\u2019d like to challenge that.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

That instinct hasn\u2019t changed since he joined IE Business School\u2019s International MBA<\/a>\u00a0in 2022. What changed is what he does with it. \u201cNow it\u2019s more structured, more analytical and more constructive,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s less about pushing back, and more about improving the outcome.\u201d\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a small distinction that explains a lot about the four years that followed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Growth that\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0about a title\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n

For Amir, the idea of becoming\u00a0the\u00a0next best\u00a0version\u00a0of himself stopped being a career question a while ago. It became a national one.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

\n

I have a personal ambition to be part of the next generation that will help rebuild Iran, both economically and structurally. That\u2019s something I think about a lot.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n


Seen through that lens, every move becomes preparation. \u201cGrowth means getting myself ready for that kind of responsibility:\u00a0building the right skills, gaining the right exposure and putting myself in environments where I can operate at scale,\u201d he explains. \u201cIt\u2019s less about titles now, and more about impact when it actually matters.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

The project he\u2019s proudest of and why it almost wasn\u2019t about expansion\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n

The clearest test of that ambition has been the Tamkeen Overseas Expansion Program, launched in 2024 in partnership with Tamkeen in Bahrain. The brief sounded straightforward: take 30 of Bahrain\u2019s leading companies, help them understand the Saudi market and support them all the way to generating revenue across the border.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

What made the program win\u00a0(and work)\u00a0was refusing to treat it as just another expansion play.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

\n

It\u2019s\u00a0not just about helping companies expand;\u00a0the real problem in Bahrain was unemployment among Bahrainis. We made sure the program directly addressed that, and\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0what made our proposal stand out.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

Amir owned\u00a0it\u00a0from\u00a0inception\u00a0to completion. He designed the program, ran it, and is now closing it out. The fun part: he did all of it remotely. He puts the delivery down to two things. \u201cHonestly, it came down to ownership and clarity. From the leadership side, it meant taking full responsibility:\u00a0not just for strategy, but for execution, stakeholder management, and outcomes.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0no hiding when you own something end to end.\u201d The remote setup forced the rest: \u201cclear communication, structured updates, and building trust without being physically present.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Joining\u00a0AstroLabs\u00a0as employee 42\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n

The other thing Amir is quietly proud of is timing.\u00a0As the International MBA prepared Amir for the real world of business, he found the opportunity to put\u00a0this new\u00a0mindset to work as a senior strategy manager at\u00a0AstroLabs, a sector-leading business expansion platform in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.\u00a0He joined\u00a0in 2023 as employee number 42 \u2014 when betting on the company was still a\u00a0risk.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

\n

It was a bit of a bet, but the upside was clear. Since\u00a0then,\u00a0the company has tripled in size, and\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0grown with it.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

Amir has been promoted three times and reports directly to the C-suite. \u201cIt\u2019s been a fast ride,\u201d he says, \u201cbut also a very intentional one.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

How the International MBA prepared Amir for impact<\/h2>\n\n

Many people pursue an MBA to open the door to new opportunities,\u00a0and often, it does. For Amir, however, the motivation ran deeper. Long before applying to the program, he was driven\u00a0by\u00a0a strong sense\u00a0of purpose and ambition. Yet he recognized that his\u00a0big ideas\u00a0sometimes lacked the structure and strategic frameworks needed to turn them into meaningful impact.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

When he discovered IE Business School, he saw a way to bridge that gap. The International MBA\u2019s hands-on approach, which challenges students to tackle real-world projects for real companies, stood out\u00a0immediately. Amir believed the experience would give him the tools,\u00a0perspectives\u00a0and discipline to channel his energy more effectively and transform bold ideas into tangible results.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

What stood out for me was how practical it was,\u201d he shares. \u201cWe were constantly put in situations where things were messy, fast-paced and sometimes uncomfortable. You had to figure things out with a team, under time pressure and with different personalities involved. That\u2019s very close to real life.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

He says the Business Impact Lab<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0perhaps the\u00a0best example of what he means: an intensive series of workshops and mentored sessions that\u00a0tasks\u00a0participants with finding solutions to challenges businesses\u00a0actually face.\u00a0Amir knew that in this context, the stakes were real, and the outcomes mattered to the clients.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Navigating a region that keeps moving\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n

Operating across Saudi Arabia and Bahrain means planning around rules that\u00a0haven\u2019t\u00a0been written yet. \u201cYou\u2019re\u00a0not just dealing with current\u00a0regulations;\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0dealing with what might change next. That creates a lot of uncertainty.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Two things keep him steady. The first is the IE alumni network in the GCC: \u201cHaving people on the ground who can give you real insights makes a big difference.\u201d The second is a discipline the program drilled in: \u201cNo matter how complex something looks, if you break it down properly, you can manage it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Why study the International MBA?\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n

For Amir, the program has been about transformation. Although his idea of what growth looks like has evolved since he enrolled, his career trajectory has remained upward. And what an impact he\u2019s made! \u201cIt\u2019s been a fast ride, but also a very intentional one,\u201d he says.\u201c<\/em>IE University has\u00a0a strong reputation\u00a0in the region, and that helps open doors.\u00a0But the real ROI comes from the decisions you make afterward.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

For me, a key moment was being pushed not to follow the typical post-MBA path,\u201d Amir concludes.\u00a0Instead, I was encouraged to look for opportunities where I could grow faster and have more impact.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
