Mariano Álvarez Diente

Information Systems & Technology

Professor Mariano Álvarez studied Telecommunications Engineering and Literature theory and Comparative Literature.

This humanistic side allows him to convey a human approach to technology to his students. In his view, Technology is only useful if humankind is able to thrive through it; and it is of vital importance to try to comprehend how human beings understand and adopt technology and the challenges that we face in this regard.

He also complements his activity as faculty in other learning environments such as IBM where he has acquired a lot experience at the training department, teaching courses over the past 15 years on many different technologies: Networks Implementation & administration, Wireless networks,  TCP/IP fundamentals, IP Telephony (VoIP), New technologies in communications, Big Data & Analytics, Mobile & corporate strategy, Internet of Things…..

In this respect, this professional experience outside the university allows him to add value to his classes through multiple examples of practical application that keep his students permanently updated.

In his opinion, one of the best gifts a student can receive is a good combination of a college education complemented by the professional experience that someone with business knowledge can bring to the classroom. This methodology is an excellent preparation for his students to be able to make better professional decisions in their respective companies in the future.

He has also lectured for Institutions such as CNP (Cuerpo Nacional de Policía) and Universidad de Valladolid and collaborates in diverse telecommunication projects for the public and private sectors.

However, what he really likes to share with his students is his commitment to each and every one of them, trying to care as much as possible about their future success.

He also encourages students to explore the uses of technology in developing and expanding niche markets for entrepreneurship while keeping the welfare of our modern society and the right to our individual freedom.
