The Bachelor in Architectural Studies allows students to put into practice everything they’ve learned in the classroom through the use of the latest tools and technologies. In line with the “learn by doing” philosophy, our students create hands-on projects throughout their academic experience at IE University. You can find some of them here.
The Filoxenia Resort is conceived as a dynamic new space for tourists and locals alike in Santiago de Compostela. The structure was created using a neighbourhood layout to foster a visual sense of a community. Rather than designing one tall building, as is common in cities, it was broken up into many smaller spaces in one common area, integrating the new development into the surrounding landscape. This structure includes three main visual highlights: the rooftop restaurant and the apartments—both of which provide outstanding views of Santiago’s urban and rural landscapes—and the cafe/ library building, which enhances the main square. The main square offers a pleasant outdoor space for members of the community to enjoy and it enhances outdoor community gatherings and offer pleasant outdoor spaces for the neighbourhood to enjoy.
Three organisms with their own micro-climates are inviting the community to develop their lives together in harmony with nature. Reinventing residential architecture with biophilic design, passive, sustainable, urban and structural strategies, multifunctional spaces, ideal orientation, equal views, dwellings privacy, natural ventilation and green spaces. All this will create a new lifestyle in Malaga.
This project arises from a real opportunity: the government of Santiago de Compostela is planning to build a new intermodal station next to the old station. This new main transportation center will become the first point of contact for most visitors, welcoming them to the city. The proposal provides a better alternative to the existing plan by reconnecting the segmented city to boost urban development and tourism in the surrounding areas. The transportation hub will be tightly woven into the urban fabric, also serving as a community and tourism center.
The Hub is a space with the optimal environment for connecting, facilitating and enhancing growth and development. It is located a specific spot inside Leeds University campus because there is a numerous amount of activity and wide variety of people (age and culture) and both the city and the university are missing co-working spaces. The Hub is creating a new and unique environment in order to invite citizens and students to develop their lives in harmony with nature and reach happiness.
