Elias Moreno

Elias has had his eye on IE University since before he even started high school. Although he changed his mind on the program in particular, he never wavered on the university itself.

Back when he was still in high school, Elias’ first passion was for psychology—and this was the career path he intended to follow. It wasn’t until he became a member of the French delegation at the European Youth Parliament and took on the role of secretary general of his student union, that he decided to pursue a career in politics and economics instead.

With a clear idea of the institution he wanted to join, Elias quickly found IE University’s Bachelor in Philosophy, Politics, Law and Economics. A move to Spain also appealed to him, and after an admissions process he describes as “smooth,” he’s certainly happy with the choice he made. He settled in very quickly, finding roommates who were also students at IE University.

The diversity and open-mindedness of the IE University ecosystem has helped Elias feel at home, encouraging him to express his out-of-the-box ideas and explore topics he’s passionate about beyond his immediate field of study. He has found time to dive into AI and programming, and has never felt his opportunities at the University have been limited by his choice of program.

He says the very broad scope of his degree trains students to connect dots. Rather than focusing on becoming experts in a specific field, his exposure to different debates, topics and opportunities allows him to link them together to see the bigger picture. He has also immersed himself in extracurricular activities like the IE University Clubs, competitions and online courses, which he recognizes are also highly valued among the community. He has been particularly active in several clubs, and has even co-founded one, praising Campus Life for the support and training they offer club coordinators.

Despite being so busy, he has found time to take part in many non-academic passions and pursuits. He considers himself to be a speedy footballer, though he missed out on selection for the University’s football team. Elias is also an avid and wide-ranging reader, taking in everything from astrophysics to fiction to spirituality. A keen exponent of the benefits of meditation, Elias also praises the free mental health support and counselling services offered by IE University. While he no longer has time for the competitive video gaming he once excelled at, he’s learning to play the ukulele because he “can’t carry a piano around” with him.

Looking to the future, just like in his past, the path may well take some twists and turns. Though he does have his heart set on walking the Camino de Santiago, Elias believes that the most interesting people don’t know what they want to do with their lives before they’re forty.

That said, he’s increasingly interested in Artificial Intelligence, having completed an internship at the Council of Europe’s Committee on Social Affairs. While there, he worked on a report about AI and the labor markets, and is now trying to learn the technical side of AI. After graduating, he’s hoping to launch his career in AI consultancy. Whichever path he eventually finds himself on, we wish him well.
