The 5th enlightED consolidates itself once again as a world reference event in educational innovation
The annual conference brought together 57 international speakers and 2,000 attendees to discuss the challenges of learning in the digital age.

The 5th edition of enlightED, the world conference on education, technology and innovation, consolidated as a global benchmark in educational innovation, closed today. After two hybrid editions, this year it has returned on November 16 and 17 in face-to-face format and with an attendance of 2,000 people. This edition was bolstered by the support of the “la Caixa” Foundation, which joins Fundación Telefónica, IE University and South Summit as organizers of the event.

Under the slogan Connecting innovation. Education that transforms, enlightED 2022 has addressed three main themes around which the 21 papers of the conference have pivoted: the digital skills of today and tomorrow; disruptive classrooms; and advancing equity and inclusion through innovation.

The closing ceremony was overseen by Pilar Alegría, Spain’s Minister of Education and Training, and José María Álvarez-Pallete, Chairman of Telefónica, who highlighted the role of education in promoting social inclusion, reducing inequalities and boosting the competitiveness of countries:

“When such disruptive changes occur in short periods of time, there is a risk of inequality. There is no more powerful tool than education and training to ensure social inclusion, reduce inequalities and boost countries’ competitiveness”.
Pilar Alegría, Spain’s Minister of Education and Training, and José María Álvarez-Pallete, Chairman of Telefónica

As in its previous years, the conference has brought together leading thinkers from Spain and beyond to address the challenges of learning in the digital age, among them Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice President of the European Commission; Susan David, renowned psychologist at Harvard Medical School; Alok Kanojia, psychiatrist and co-founder of Healthy Famer; Osuman Umar, founder of NASCO Feeding Minds; and Kenneth Cukier, a senior editor at The Economist and an authority on emerging technology.
