The Chair will be led by Javier Fernández Aguado, international expert in the management of people and organizations

IE University and the “la Caixa” Bank Foundation have signed an agreement to set up the “la Caixa” Bank Foundation Chair in Management, aimed at promoting research and best practices in the management of people and organizations. The Chair will be headed by Javier Fernández Aguado, President of MindValue and an expert in management and leadership with a superlative track record as a researcher and speaker on an international level.

The new Chair will operate under the aegis of IE Business School and will serve as a platform for research led by Javier Fernández Aguado, creator of six management models: Managing the Imperfect, Organizational Pathologies, Leading Amid Uncertainty, Will Management, Feelings Management, and Habit-based Management. The Chair will also focus on the dissemination of knowledge, and publications, and on the development of lines of research and studies in the field of management.

The creation of the Chair stems from “la Caixa” Bank Foundation’s focus on supporting excellence in education, which in turn forms part of its commitment to people and key social needs (eradication of poverty in Spain, job creation, social housing, care for the elderly and ill, etc.), the promotion of science, research and education, and the dissemination of culture and knowledge.

After years of work, first as a senior manager and then as an entrepreneur, Javier Fernández Aguado is currently the President of MindValue. He holds a Doctorate in Economics and Business from Madrid’s Complutense University, and has authored sixty books on the governance of business organizations and entrepreneurship (half of which were written solely by himself).  His work in the field of education and consultancy has benefitted over five hundred organizations in some fifty countries. In 2014 he received the Prize for the Best Consultant in the Field of Business Management and Spanish Speaker (Executives category). In 2015 he was given the Micro de Oro award for the Best Speaker on Economy and Business (ECOFIN Forum). His biography is featured in the book Great Creators in the History of Management (Ariel), by José Luis García Ruiz, Senior Lecturer at Madrid’s Complutense University, which examines the thoughts of 92 of the world’s outstanding thinkers in the field of management.

The Director of the Chair in the “la Caixa” Bank Foundation Chair in Management has received numerous prizes both in Spain and worldwide, including the 1997 Artigas Prize for the Best Research Work in the Field of Social Sciences; the 2006 Prize for the Best European Book on Management, for his book “The Solitude of Directors” (UK); and the 2008 Peter Drucker Prize for Innovation in Management (US).  In 2015, Fernández Aguado was selected by Nuria Ramos and Sergio Casquet for the book “Universal Spanish Thinkers” (LID), which included the 10 most renowned Spanish intellectuals.
