IE University is the No. 1 university in Spain, No. 11 in Europe, and No. 29 worldwide in the Global Employability Ranking 2014

The ranking, published today by the International New York Times, gauges the quality of the 150 top universities in the world and the employability of their students

IE University is the No. 1 university in Spain, No. 11 in Europe and No. 29 in the world in the Global Employability Survey and University Ranking 2014 published today by the International New York Times.

The ranking was drawn up by leading consulting firms Emerging (France) and Trendence (Germany) and evaluated how attractive leading universities are for recruiters. Over 2,500 managers and HR experts from 20 countries took part in the survey, providing opinions on key aspects of the university learning experience, including levels of academic excellence in universities, the importance of a practical approach to learning, interpersonal skills, team work, and building the capacity to solve problems and work under pressure. Some 67% of participants underscored the fact that the global profile of a university is a key factor for ensuring graduates’ employability.

IE University climbed 5 positions in the 2014 ranking compared to last year’s results, and has risen 14 positions since 2012. Achieving the No. 29 position means that IE University is now among the top 30 educational establishments in the world when it comes to being appreciated by directors of human resources. The universities of Cambridge, Harvard and Yale are the current overall leaders.

“Universities play a pivotal role in ensuring their students are able to integrate into an increasingly competitive, globalized and intercultural work market,” said Salvador Carmona, Rector of IE University. “The fact that global corporations recognise our commitment to quality and excellence is enormously satisfying.”

The top 30 universities in the ranking comprise 11 US-based universities, 11 based in Europe, 5 in Asia, 2 in Canada, and one in Australia. The top 150 universities include Spain’s University of Navarre at No. 45 and Ramón Llull University at No. 108.

The ranking was based on the opinions of 2,500 managers and HR experts from 20 countries with regard to the best universities in their country, their continent and other world regions. These experts examined parameters such as the quality of different higher education systems, their strong points, and areas where there is room for improvement. They showed a special interest in teaching methodology, available specializations and the level of interaction with other universities and the corporate world during the degree program. One of the main conclusions of the study is that leading universities are striving to reinvent and restructure themselves in order to meet the challenges of a labor market that is in constant change.
