A project entitled “Wall Path” from Mexico was the winner of Segovia City Hall’s “From Limit To Live It” competition, which called for international entries to design a temporary artistic display that would serve to highlight the role in the day-to-day of Segovia of its city walls. The competition, which received a total of 54 proposals from 26 countries, was an initiative of Segovia’s City Hall in collaboration with IE University through its d-lab, and a public sector tourism firm, and was timed to take place in a year declared by UNESCO to be the International Year of Light.

The team behind the winning project comprised creators Gerardo Ávila Gaona, Patricia Ahumada Bobadilla, Luis Erik García Trujillo and Aramen Sánchez Chávez. The Second prize went to a project entitled “Up, Up, and Away” created by Spaniards Julia Molina Virué and Vicente Pérez Hernández. The third prize went to a project called “Entre-telas, Entre muros”, presented by Spanish creators Isabel Manso Cristóbal, Antonio Plaza Novoa and Alicia Serna Crespo.

The judges panel, which also announced ten honorary mentions, was comprised of Martha Thorne, Vice Dean of External Relations at IE School of Architecture & Design, and Executive Director of the Pritzker Prize in Architecture; Stefano Fake, visual artist; Franc Aleu, multidisciplinary artist; Daniel Canogar, audiovisual artist; David Díez, architect and photographer; and interim councilors Claudia de Santos and Alfonso Reguera.

The objective of the “From Limit To Live It” competition was to call on artists worldwide to bring attention to the northern stretch of the medieval city wall that surrounds Segovia’s old quarter by means of a temporary artistic display. Entries included projects from Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania, and in addition to Spain, came from countries that included Canada, Germany, Serbia, Russia, South Korea, Switzerland, Indonesia, Philippines, Brazil, Australia, Norway, and Egypt.
