Salvador Carmona, Rector of IE University, awarded Honorary Doctorate by Finland’s Aalto University

This distinction recognizes the academic and professional achievements of Salvador Carmona.

Salvador Carmona, Rector of IE University, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Aalto University, one of the most important academic institutions in Finland, internationally recognized for its innovative academic programs.

This distinction recognizes the academic and professional achievements of Salvador Carmona, as well as his research work in accounting and management control, along with his responsibilities as Editor of the European Accounting Review and President of the European Accounting Association. Aalto University also recognizes the work of IE University's Rector in promoting the mobility of academics in these areas.

The official award ceremony will take place in May 2022 at Aalto University in Helsinki.

Solid international recognition

Salvador Carmona, rector of IE University since 2011, is recognized internationally as a academic and a manager of educational institutions. Over the course of his career as an academic manager, in addition to his responsibilities at IE University, he has overseen the National R&D Plan in Spain in the area of Economics and Business Management. He is a member of the editorial boards of 15 prestigious international academic journals -he has been the editor of the European Accounting Review, president of the European Accounting Assn and Senior Editor of Oxford Research Reviews- and is the author or co-author of a long list of articles, books and teaching materials of international scope.

He also has experience as a business consultant, and has been a visiting professor at CEIBS (China), Arizona State University (US) and the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), among others. As a researcher, Carmona has studied the relationship between technological change and management control systems, as well as the organizational and social aspects of accounting systems, with special emphasis on ethical aspects. The results of this research have been published in leading international journals and books .

In February 2019, Carmona was invested Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Almeria. A native of the southern Spanish province, he participated in the design of the first curriculum of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at the Autnomous University of Almería.
