Prospective Mentees A unique society of students to help you learn the ropes
WELCOME!
Dear Student,
If you are starting as a freshman at IEU and would like to have a head start on and off campus, this is the program for you.
Driving Innovation is the motto at IE University, and it all begins with our students. IEU is a community of driven individuals finding inspiration in the people and environments around them, and this spirit of connection and inspiration is what we actively seek to foster within the Mentorship Society. As IEU students, you come from a broad range of cultural backgrounds, with a diversity of skills set to be honed as you share experiences with your new friends, fellow classmates, and the University’s faculty and staff.
The Mentorship Society at IEU accelerates this opportunity of integration and exchange from the very beginning of your time here. We are looking for individuals who want to start their university experience by actively exploring the campus, our community, and the activities IEU has to offer. You invest your time and interest, and you take away lasting friendships and a wonderful sense of belonging to a community that values equality, friendship, sharing, and learning.
Welcome aboard and we look forward to seeing you here at IEU soon.
Best wishes,
Anna Lown
Mentoring & Counseling Associate Director
YOUR MENTOR, Your own personal IEU guru
Every Mentee will be assigned to a Mentor. Your Mentor can answer your questions and give you advice in anticipation of arriving on campus in September, and will accompany and support you throughout the semester as you get used to your new surroundings, both on campus and off. The Mentors are a select group of students, many of whom have recently been Mentees themselves, who are looking forward to advising and socializing with new students.
Let's get together!
At the Mentorship Society Kick-Off event the weekend before Orientation Week, Mentees can officially meet their Mentors for the first time, socialize with other Mentees, and have some fun with the planned activities!
Throughout September we have a variety of fun, cultural, or informative events and activities for Mentees and Mentors to enjoy together, such as movie nights, city tours, or escape room challenges. Aside from being a great opportunity to meet and catch up with other participants in our unique society of IEU students, Mentees are expected to attend and participate in these events.
BECOME A MENTEE!
Here's how:
STEP 1
Beginning in May, accepted new students who have paid their place reservation will receive an email from the Mentorship Society with an invitation to apply as Mentees and a link to the Online Application Form.
STEP 2
Once your application has been correctly registered and processed, you will receive a confirmation email. Successful applications will be passed on to the assignment phase.
STEP 3
Accepted Mentees will be sent the contact details of their assigned Mentor via email beginning on August 3rd. Mentees can then contact their Mentors directly with questions to prepare for the start of term.
Any unsuccessful applicants will be notified before the start of term.
See our Calendar for more detailsSTEP 4
Meet your Mentor! On Saturday, September 5th, 2020 (Date TBC) the Mentorship Society hosts its Kick-Off event where Mentors and Mentees can meet in person. Fun activities and useful Q&A sessions will get Mentees off and running for their first semester at IEU. Orientation Week for all first-year students will begin the following Monday, September 7th (Date TBC) – so come early for the Kick-Off and get a head start on meeting and socializing!
Things to consider
-
Make a commitment
We are looking for first-years who want to be active participants in this program throughout the first semester. Most Mentorship Society events take place in September, while students are still getting a feel for university and their new academic demands (see our 2020 Mentorship Society Calendar).
The more you put in, the more you’ll get out – our Mentors are selected especially for their high level of engagement with and interest in campus life, and we want our freshmen to honor their efforts with an intent to be as involved with the program as they can for its duration. -
Take time (& care) with your application
We are looking for you to tell us about yourself and why you want to be a Mentee! This will also help us to match you with a Mentor that we think you’ll get along with. If you leave answers blank, or give only short, perfunctory answers to some questions, this may be considered grounds for discarding the application.
Please use a computer rather than a mobile device (tablet or smartphone) to fill out the application.
