Branding Nueva Esparta

Final Project for the Bachelor in Design, Class of 2021.

Restoring a Caribbean touristic site by the name of Nueva Esparta through the implementation of a visual identitySince the end of the 1980s, the Caribbean islands have taken their place in the mass tourism era achieving prominence on the international scene through a number of major destinations. Their charming blue seas, white sands, peaceful sunsets, year-round warm weather, and range of accommodation of major islands such as Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and the ABC Islands [Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao] are some of the characteristics that attract the mass tourism.

However, for decades there has been a group of Caribbean islands located in the marine boundaries of Venezuela, by the name of Margarita, Cubagua, and Coche whose beauty and potential have been overseen. They were once a top-quality Caribbean destination, receiving around 3.2 million tourists per year and taking the lead within this market. However, for the past decades, this state has been suffering from a touristic decline. The infrastructure has deteriorated, but the beauty is still there. My goal is to restore the tourism of these islands through the creation of a visual identity.

By creating a branding project for the Nueva Esparta State I will restore its image and incite people from around the world to visit this place. Having said that, and with the need for Nueva Esparta to revive its tourism, the aim of this project is to restore the image and create a visual identity for this state by showcasing the essence of its people, attractions, and history. It's an opportunity to demonstrate the potential that this state has as a touristic site within the Caribbean, a state that will live up to its name ‘The Pearls of the Caribbean.’
