Bootcamp Diary III: Stefania

Introduce yourself:

My name is Stefania and I am passionate about tech and innovation. I am originally Greek and like a true Spartan, I want to have a meaningful impact in everything that I do.

What was your favorite part of this week in the bootcamp?

Definitely our lunch and learn with Jose Luis Hidalgo from Nextail. Jose gave us some insights on how data is transforming the retail industry, which is currently undergoing a lot of change. He was able to shed some light on what the day-to-day routine of a data scientist consists of. It was a great and informative session and the food provided by IE was excellent.

What was the most challenging part of your week?

By far the math and stats exam! Our exam was based on linear and predictive models to prepare us for the machine learning classes next week. Having a three-hour exam on a Friday morning was a test of my resilience.

Has anything funny or comical happened during the bootcamp this week?

To be honest, every day something funny happens. The group dynamics are great, and whilst we work very hard we also take some time to relax, unwind and have a laugh- as the Brits would say.

What is the most practical skill that you’ve learned thus far in the bootcamp?

Python by far! It is a very powerful tool and I cannot wait to apply my knowledge in the next role I take on.

What do you like to do when you’re not in class?

Angel, who is a local Madrileño, has taken it upon himself to show us the best gems in Madrid so I have been exploring some authentic tapas restaurants and I’ve discovered that Spanish food is fantastic. I love just walking around and discovering the city, Madrid has so much to offer. Finally, practicing yoga to unwind from a long day is a must! The classes are in Spanish which has helped me practice both my yoga and my Spanish!
