Rafael Ballester-Ripoll joined the IE School of Science and Technology in 2019 as an Assistant Professor in the area of Data Science and Computer Science.

Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH).

He holds a PhD in Computer Science from UZH (2017) as well as BSc and MSc degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Technical University of Catalonia-UPC (2012).

His research interests lie in explainable artificial intelligence and information visualization using modeling tools such as neural networks, graphical models, and low-rank tensor decompositions.
