          IE University: Our History

          We’ve been disruptors from the very start—and we’ve proved it over the decades.

          IE University was founded in 1973, by and for entrepreneurs who recognized that traditional schools weren’t equipping students with the skills they needed in the job market.

          In the fifty-plus years since, we’ve turned business education on its head with a disruptive teaching methodology, bringing faculty with real-world experience into the classroom. Now standard practice at our foundation, we were pioneers in recruiting industry practitioners as professors to add a hands-on approach to learning.

          IE Business School was one of the first such institutions in the world to launch an online MBA, and that spirit of innovation has allowed us to constantly stay at the cutting edge of higher education.

          Now offering dozens of programs across six schools to one of the most diverse student bodies in the world, we educate the leaders of the future. At the core of all our programs is an entrepreneurial approach, a global mindset, and a commitment to sustainability. Our students leave our programs as well-rounded professionals, ready to reshape their industries and leave their mark on the world.

          Now we aim to expand our engagement in the Middle East, in line with our commitment to women’s empowerment, equality and inclusion, and in recognition of the region’s worldwide renown as a hub of innovation, entrepreneurship and progress. Through active collaboration with leading companies and institutions across the Middle East, we aim to join the region on its path to growth and modernization.

            Our Mission

            At IE University, our mission is to cultivate an environment where ideas prosper, emphasizing education and talent development in the Middle East through our innovative programs and our alliances with local stakeholders. For students that will later flourish in the job market of the region or become entrepreneurs, we are committed to contributing significantly to the development and receptiveness of Middle Eastern companies, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet the demands of consumers and enhance customer satisfaction.

            Our focus on sustainability, women's empowerment, equality, and inclusion underscores our dedication to fostering a progressive business environment in the Middle East. These and the many other initiatives already underway or in development are the fruits of that dedication and will be the drivers of progressive change across the region.

            The IE Center for Leadership & Innovation in the Middle East aims to educate and nurture talent in the region through cutting-edge programs and broad stakeholder engagement. Our vision is to be a catalyst for transformation, driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation in the Middle East. We envision our Center as a dedicated hub focusing on the unique needs of the region, offering tailored programs and initiatives that empower individuals and organizations to thrive in a rapidly evolving business landscape. Additionally, we aim to highlight select programs from IE University's portfolio, providing potential students from the region with comprehensive information and opportunities for their educational advancement.

            The Center opens at the ideal time to further drive progress in a region that’s already undergoing substantial and positive development. Ambitious initiatives across the Middle East have been instrumental in reshaping the region.

            IE University and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 

            Saudi’s Vision 2030 embodies a transformative agenda towards diversification and sustainable development. Through IE’s engagements in KSA, particularly aligned with the Education & Vision 2030, we contribute to this visionary path. Establishing the Center in Saudi will reinforce IE University´s commitment to driving positive change and growth in the kingdom. Focusing on establishing a Professional Development Pathway through IE’s Lifelong Learning, as well as aligning Saudi and IE’s focus on sustainability.
