Dr. Javier Muro serves as an Assistant Professor of Earth Observation at the IE University School of Science and Technology, where he applies cutting-edge methodologies to advance environmental research. He earned his PhD in Remote Sensing from the University of Bonn, Germany in 2019, specializing in machine learning and time series analysis of satellite data to inform policy-making decisions. His expertise has since contributed to pivotal research at the Center for Remote Sensing of Land Surfaces and the Thünen Institute of Farm Eco

nomics, where he has leveraged remote sensing and deep learning to enhance biodiversity research and carbon sequestration initiatives.

Prior to his period in Germany, Dr. Muro pursued his MSc in Geoinformatics at the University of Turku, Finland, where he became an integral part of the Amazon Research Team, consolidating his knowledge in biodiversity monitoring.

Dr. Muro’s research interests lie at the intersection of remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and environmental sustainability, with a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary studies that examine the impact of human activities on ecosystem services and societal well-being. His scholarly contributions have been published in top-tier journals, including Remote Sensing of Environment, and he has presented his work at prestigious international conferences, such as the Living Planet Symposium of the European Space Agency. With a commitment to bridging scientific discovery with practical applications, Dr. Muro remains at the forefront of innovations that advance data-driven solutions for sustainable development.
