Students must, in principle, have passed the course “European Union Law” in order to be eligible to represent the University in the ELMC Competition.

The course emphasises the logic of European integration reflected in its historical development, theoretical approaches to the dynamics of supranational integration, the political and institutional functioning of the European political system, as well as its political and democratic legitimacy. Understanding of different topics will be deepened through practical exercises and debates on current issues in EU/European politics.
To improve skills to conduct legal research and legal analysis, and to understand and interpret statutory provisions and case law
To learn to explain, clearly and persuasively, legal rules and their effect
To learn to apply EU law in practice by solving and arguing a complex case both in writing and orally
To acquire deeper knowledge of constitutional and substantive EU law, in particular of topical, legal issues
To learn to argue a case involving EU law before the CJEU
