Comparative Law in Action is the first university competition that brings together students from top law schools to work in virtual teams, solving a simulated case and reaching an innovative solution through the study and application of a comparative legal mindset.
This course is designed to prepare the student team participating in the 4th edition of the Comparative Law in Action Competition hosted by IE University in May/June 2024. Throughout this course, students will work on a multimedia case of comparative law, prepare the team’s written report, and prepare for the 3-day experiential event where they will represent the IE Law School and compete with the student teams from the other participating universities, namely the teams of Edinburgh Law School, Bocconi University, Bucerius Law School, FGV Rio Law School, Maastricht University, Sciences Po Law School and Tilburg Law School. The case of this year revolves around space law.
All the students registering for this course are expected to attend all the sessions, even if they are not part of the selected team for the Competition.
The course’s main objective is that students learn about the topics that the case of the competition entails, draft the written report to be submitted to the competition, and prepare for the simulation.
Students will develop professional skills as listed below:
-react to a multimedia case;
-the ability to distinguish relevant facts in a complex fact pattern, including multimedia resources;
-the ability to react to legal and policy questions surrounding space law;
-the ability to draft legal reports, answer presented questions, and argue effectively;
-the ability to present, answer, and argue with competence in simulation (moot) proceedings;
-to work effectively in groups and to support each other to perform in their best capacity.
