While there are no formal prerequisites for this course, the successful student has a strong sense of curiosity, demonstrates creative ability, enjoys collaboration, and is motivated to grow as a personal and professional.

This is an interactive, participatory course that will challenge students’ abilities and enable them to create stronger skills and bigger goals (and build the confidence to achieve them).

Brief description

INNOVATION IN THE LEGAL MARKET (“ILM”) introduces students to the intersection of law, technology, innovation, and business. Utilizing a blended (part in-person, part virtual) hands-on, project-based approach with team and individual work. ILM equips students with tools and techniques to shape their professional identity and succeed in the future professional services marketplace.

ILM is particularly useful for students who are contemplating a global career in law, consulting, entrepreneurship, and other non-traditional uses for their law degree.

Learning Objetives

ILM is a demanding course. It is an innovative, interactive exercise in experiential learning that:

•Draws upon students’ interests in technology, legal design, entrepreneurship, marketing/branding, communication, and the law
•Builds students’ 21stcentury professional skills including problem solving, project management, cultural competency, teamwork, feedback, and leadership
•Enables students to better understand both their role and the opportunities within the changing professional services environment.
