This subject aims to analyze the importance of natural resources and their governance in the socio-economic development of countries. Likewise, this subject aims to describe how the use and access to natural resources affects geopolitics, democracy and the power relations of societies. Due to its critical importance in the development of many countries, this course puts the emphasis on the management of the energy and mineral sector and its implications in the sustainable development from a economic, social and environmental perspective. Likewise, topics such as the just transition to low-carbon economies will be addressed in this course.
The importance and the impact on societies of the infrastructures linked to projects in the energy and mineral sector will be analyzed. To achieve the learning objectives, case studies and practical workshops will be used. The student will acquire management, negotiation, facilitation and dialgoue skills to interact with the different groups involved in the natural resource governance.
